2. Identify negative thought patterns: Common negative thought patterns include:

* All-or-nothing thinking (e.g., “I’m a complete failure”)

* Overgeneralization (e.g., “I’ll never be able to do this”)

* Catastrophizing (e.g., “This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me”)

* Mind reading (e.g., “They think I’m stupid”)

* Emotional reasoning (e.g., “I feel anxious, so I must be in danger”)

3. Challenge negative thoughts: Ask yourself questions like:

* Is this thought really true?

* Is there another way to look at this situation?

* What evidence do I have for this thought?

* Would I say this to a friend?

* Is this thought helping me or hurting me?

4. Replace negative thoughts with balanced thoughts: Once you’ve challenged a negative thought, replace it with a more balanced and realistic one. For example:

* Is this thought really true? (No, it’s unlikely that failing one exam will ruin my life)

* Is there another way to look at this situation? (Yes, I can prepare well and do my best)

* What evidence do I have for this thought? (None, I’ve studied hard and done well on previous exams)

* Would I say this to a friend? (No, I’d be more supportive and encouraging)

* Is this thought helping me or hurting me? (It’s hurting me, making me feel anxious and stressed)

Replace this negative thought with a more balanced one: “I’ll study hard and do my best, and whatever happens, I’ll learn from it and move forward.”

Remember, challenging negative thoughts takes time and practice. Be patient and kind to yourself as you work on developing this skill.
